Barcelona, Spain – January 20–23, 2025
The HiPEAC 2025 Conference in Barcelona successfully brought together experts from across the computing ecosystem, focusing on key topics such as safety-critical systems, cybersecurity, energy efficiency, and machine learning. As an important player in European high-performance computing (HPC), EUPILOT actively contributed to the discussions, sharing insights and engaging with the community.
EUPILOT’s Highlights at HiPEAC 2025
EUPILOT had a strong presence at the conference through its participation in various sessions and activities. At the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) booth, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the project’s mission and latest advancements in European HPC.
One of the key technical sessions was “Developing Distributed and Heterogeneous Applications Combining OpenMP Tasks with MPI and CUDA”, which provided valuable insights into optimizing parallel computing performance. Additionally, the workshop on RISC-V – The Cornerstone ISA for the Next Generation of HPC Infrastructures, held on January 21, featured a highly engaging panel discussion on “Lessons Learned from EU Projects to Achieve European Leadership.” Carlos Puchol (BSC), Principal Investigator of EUPILOT, delivered a compelling keynote emphasizing the need for European autonomy in HPC technologies.
Showcasing European Processor Innovation
As part of its contribution to advancing European digital sovereignty, EUPILOT was also featured at the European Processor Initiative (EPI) booth (#21). Filippo Mantovani (BSC) presented an EPAC demo, showcasing the latest advancements in European processor technologies and their potential applications in next-generation HPC systems.
Promoting Diversity and Talent in HPC
Diversity and inclusion were key themes at HiPEAC 2025, and EUPILOT supported these efforts through the “MAR WHPC Chapter: Building the Diversity Continuum in Cutting-Edge Technologies” workshop, co-organized by BSC researchers Marta Garcia-Gasulla and Sara Royuela. This session highlighted contributions from female researchers and promoted a more inclusive future in HPC and AI.
Furthermore, EUPILOT engaged with students and early-career professionals as part of the HiPEAC-led Passport Challenge and STEM Student Day, helping to inspire and attract the next generation of HPC experts.
