EPI, EUPEX, and EUPILOT joined forces at ISC 2024

Joint booth and EPAC demo

EPI, EUPEX, and EUPILOT presented a collaborative booth in the exhibition area, which attracted a lot of visitors. Attendees gained deeper insights into the three projects through discussions with their representatives. A highlight was the EPAC demo prototype, featuring a RISC-V vector processing unit developed at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), which garnered special interest. The impressive demonstration was conducted by Fillippo Mantovani and Fabio Banchelli Gracia.

Birds of a Feather (BoF) session “European Processor Initiative & the Pre-Exascale Pilots”

Speakers: Pascale Bernier-Bruna (Eviden), Etienne Walter (Eviden), Carlos Puchol (BSC), moderator: Romana Konjevod (BSC)

The goal of this BoF session was to facilitate discussions on European Pre-Exascale HPC demonstrators, focusing on technologies derived from the European Processor Initiative (EPI), and to foster community interest in EPI, EUPEX, and EUPILOT projects. After brief presentations of each project, there was time for Q&A and open discussions. The session had a great turnout, filling the hall and creating a dynamic atmosphere for addressing various questions from the audience.

EUPILOT featured at the EuroHPC JU booth

The EuroHPC JU booth attracted many visitors who engaged with staff about upcoming activities, opportunities, and initiatives. EUPILOT’s promotional materials were also featured at the booth, enabling visitors to additionally inquire about the project or be redirected to the EUPILOT booth for more detailed information.

EUPILOT’s keynote at the Fourth International workshop on RISC-V for HPC

This years’ ISC featured impressive 23 workshops. At the Fourth International workshop on RISC-V for HPC, Carlos Puchol (BSC) gave a keynote “The European PILOT: RISC-V accelerators for HPC and AI”. The workshop brought together those promoting RISC-V in HPC with the broader supercomputing community to share benefits, success stories, and techniques, further popularizing the technology.

Women at ISC24

This year marked substantial efforts to advance the representation of women in HPC. Marta Garcia Gasulla (BSC, EUPILOT) was instrumental in orchestrating and delivering three dedicated sessions on women in HPC. She actively advocated for the Women in HPC organization and the WHPC MAR chapter through engaging and impactful sessions. Particularly noteworthy was the “Super(computing) Heroes” session, which featured 12 esteemed female experts from various disciplines, highlighted by the insightful participation of Pascale Bernier-Bruna.
